Through a series of volunteer-run workshops teaching a variety of crafts using reclaimed materials, the Remakery inspires the Brixton community to find sustainable design solutions.
The idea of making and printing professional designs on tote bags, t-shirts, posters and other craft items can be intimidating, and many people do not have the skills or confidence to create their own.
In this spirit I ran a stamp art workshop aimed at children and teens. The group were shown how to draw and cut their own rubber stamps using old bicycle inner tubes, scrapped timber, and a dash of glue. They then decorated tote bags with their unique designs.
Running this workshop was a great opportunity to show people that with easily sourced and inexpensive ‘throwaway’ materials they could create quality crafted design items for themselves.
